About BMW Guidebook

BMW Guidebook is an independent guide to BMW ownership — the answers we wish existed when we bought our first BMWs. We cover what it actually costs to run one, how to fix the common problems yourself, and how to buy a used one without regret.

Why we exist

Owning a BMW is rewarding, but the information around it is scattered: a forum thread from 2014 here, a vague dealer quote there, a YouTube video that skips the hard step. We do the digging — factory documentation, technical service bulletins, parts catalogs, and thousands of owner reports — and turn it into clear, complete guides.

What we cover

Our focus starts with the 3 Series — BMW’s heartland, from the E90 through the G20 — and expands outward to the 5 Series, X3, and X5. Expect troubleshooting guides for warning lights and error codes, step-by-step DIY maintenance, engine and generation comparisons, reliability data by year, and honest used-buying guides.
