Step-by-step BMW maintenance and DIY repair guides.
Short answer: BimmerCode is a paid phone app (roughly $30–50, one-time) that flips hidden convenience settings in your BMW 3 Series through an OBD2 adapter — folding mirrors on lock, a digital speedometer, auto start-stop memory, brighter angel eyes, and more. It cannot add horsepower or remap your engine; that is tuning, not coding. Before…
Short answer: BMW 3 Series water pump replacement is very DIY-able once you know which pump your engine uses: N-series cars (E90, early F30) have an electric pump paired with an electronic thermostat, while B-series cars (late F30, G20) went back to a belt-driven mechanical pump with a heat management module. Budget 1–2 hours on…
Short answer bmw brake pad replacement diy is one of the most approachable jobs on the 3 Series: plan on roughly 1–2 hours per axle with basic hand tools. On the E90 and F30, front and rear pistons push straight back; on the G20, the rear electronic parking brake must be retracted first with a…
Short answer BMW expansion tank failure means the translucent plastic coolant reservoir has cracked — usually at a seam or hose neck after years of heat cycles and pressure. The giveaways: a sweet coolant smell after parking, a low-coolant warning that keeps returning, visible cracks or yellowing on the tank, and crusty residue or a…
Cold-start misfires that vanish once the engine warms up. A rough idle that no spark plug change seems to fix. Power that feels slightly duller than it used to, and fuel economy that keeps sliding. If you own a BMW with a direct-injected engine — the N54, N55, or N20 — this pattern is familiar…
Short answer BMW 3 Series brake rotors are almost never truly warped. Pedal pulsation and steering-wheel shake under braking usually come from uneven pad deposits or disc thickness variation — less than a thousandth of an inch across the rotor face is enough to feel. Mild cases can often be cured by bedding; confirmed thickness…
⚠ SAFETY FIRST — READ THIS Never work under a car supported only by a floor jack. A jack lifts; jack stands hold. Always lower the car onto rated stands, chock the wheels that stay on the ground, work on flat level pavement, and give the car a firm shove-test before any part of you…
Short answer The BMW coolant bleed procedure uses the car’s electric water pump to purge air with the engine off: switch the ignition on (engine off), turn on the low-beam headlights, set the heater to maximum with the blower on its lowest speed, then floor the accelerator for about 10 seconds. The pump runs a…
Short answer: BMW 3 Series fuse box locations vary by generation. E90 (2006–2013): main fuse box behind the glove compartment; high-current fuses in a rear power distribution panel by the battery in the trunk. F30 (2012–2018): a front power distribution box in the engine compartment plus the main fuse box in the luggage compartment (right…
Short answer: Checking the BMW 3 Series oil level is electronic-only — no E90, F30, or G20 has a physical dipstick. Warm the engine with at least 6 miles / 10 km of driving, park on level ground, and run the measurement from the dashboard: iDrive (Vehicle Info → Vehicle status → Engine oil level)…
